In many cities around the world, smoking is not just a habit — it is part of the environment. Many people cannot break this self-damaging habit because the world around them keeps pulling them back. The person sitting next to you lights one up. Your friends step outside for one between conversations. The city itself reinforces the habit.
This is what happened to me with crypto trading.
I am not going to lie — I was addicted to it. The crypto market is 24/7. It never closes. You can find trades at any time, and the number of cryptos available to trade increases every day. Almost every exchange launches new coins constantly, and there is already a huge number to choose from. But these are the exact reasons — along with some others — that made me switch.
As a beginner, we all have an urge to look at the charts all the time. Back in those days, I did not even want to sleep — which is not a healthy habit. Since the crypto market never closes, instead of sitting down and analyzing my mistakes, I was always searching for another trade. And since there is a huge number of cryptos to choose from, it was quite hard to resist. No setup in BTC? Move to the next one. And the next. And the next.
I believed that the more time I spent looking at charts, the better I would become. And yes — we do need to practice chart reading. But we also need to rest. Every muscle needs recovery after four to five days of a workout. You cannot grow without it.
On top of all this, there is volatility. Five to ten percent moves are completely normal in crypto. Yes, many people profit from this — but many more lose to it. You cannot stop the volatility. You cannot close the crypto market. But you and I can choose how and when we take trades.
In my early trading days I could not resist the urge, so I decided to switch to Forex, Gold and Silver. No matter how much I want to trade, the market is closed on weekends — and that gives me time to reflect on my journal and my mistakes. Instead of trading every crypto I can find, I now prefer to hold the good ones like BTC and ETH as long-term investments and only take a live trade in BTC if my setup is fully supporting it. Otherwise, I skip it.
The point is not that everyone has to stop trading crypto. If it works for you, and you can keep a healthy balance between trading and the rest of your life, then it is good. But if you cannot — you need to find your own way to deal with it.
A lot of people reading this might say: "You just need stronger willpower." And yes — that may help, if the environment around you is not constantly reinforcing the habit. But if a person truly wants to quit smoking, they almost need to change their entire environment first. Otherwise, sooner or later, the world around them will pull them back in. And the real problem is not the environment — the real problem is that people fall into despair, believing they simply do not have strong enough willpower.
Choosing Forex, Gold and Silver was my way of changing my environment.
I want to end this post with one thought: make trading a passion — don't let it become an addiction.
Good luck and bye for now.
